The tradition of burning candles in memory of the departed is deeply engrained in Jewish culture. The Shiva candle burns for seven days and is lit on returning home after the funeral. The Yahrzeit candle is lit to commemorate the loss of a loved one at sunset the evening before each anniversary of their passing. It is also customary to light a candle at sunset preceding the last day of Pesach, Shavuot, Sukkot and Yom Kippur when Yizkor is said.
These candles are made with high grade paraffin wax and will burn for approximately 26 hours.
