The Living Torah Museum, where authentic ancient artifactsare exhibited, was established to help those studying Torah gain a better understanding of the Tanach and the Talmud.

Much of what we learn in the Tanach, Mishnah, Gemara, and Midrash, which were written thousands of years ago, is difficult to grasp because of the lack of knowledge of ancient references. The museum's exhibitions serve as visual aids in clarifying topics in the Torah and Talmud - visitor can view and even hold in their hands original artifacts from the ancient world, helping them identify items they've learned about and appreciate what life was like back then.

The Living Torah Museum currently has two branches, each with a distinct focus. The Boro Park location features items mentioned in Tanach. Our Catskills branch, open in the summer months in Fallsburg, New York, exhibits items mentioned in the Mishnah.

Aside from the exhibitions of ancient artifacts, the museum opened a new division a few years ago, Torah Animal World, which features taxidermy animals. Visitors can see firsthand what various animals mentioned throughout the Tanach and Talmud actually look like.

Gedolim from all over the world visit the museum to see the ancient artifacts for themselves. HaRav Yisroel Belsky, zt"l, and other gedolim would regularly bring their talmidim to the museum and give shiurim there. They have come to appreciate the items on display and have made suggestions for expanding the exhibitions.

Recognizing its unique way of bringing the Torah ti life, many Torah institutions turn to The Living Torah Museum as an important resource. Torah Umesorah has featured the museum at its chinuch conventions, and Artscroll turned to the museum for help in presenting the most difficult masechta in Shas - Keilim - to show its readers what many of the keilim (utensils) mentioned there looked like. Kiruv organizations such as Aish HaTorah and Ohr Somayach regularly bring groups to the museum to teach them about Judaism and to answer their questions in emunah. Yeshivos, and girls' school bring their students so they can see up close what they are learning about in the classroom, and seminaries use the museum to help future teachers identify the items they will be teaching about.
