To Stand and Serve
by Jonathan Sacks (Author), Yehuda Amital (Author)

What is kehuna? The term is often translated as priesthood, and the Jewish
kohanim are indeed charged with ministering God s Temple, yet kehuna signifies
much more than that. A kohen is a representative of God on earth, and
this designation thus carries moral and educational dimensions in addition to
its ritual aspects. This book portrays a holistic view of the essence of kehuna
and how kohanim (and non-kohanim) can live up to its ideals.

To Stand and Serve is dedicated to the memory of Marc Weinberg z l, a man
who lived the ideals of kehuna, and truly represented God in this world until
his tragic and untimely departure. The volume contains contributions from
mentors Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks and the rashei yeshiva of Yeshivat Har
Etzion: Rav Yehuda Amital z l and Rav Aharon and Rav Mosheh Lichtenstein
shlit a friends, and students.

About the Author
Marc Weinberg was raised in London in a family deeply involved in Jewish communal service. Showing leadership skills at an early age, he first became a counsellor (madrikh) and ultimately the national director (mazkir) of Bnei Akiva in the United Kingdom and Ireland. After graduating high school with distinction he attended Yeshivat Har Etzion in Israel, and then returned to London to teach Torah to hundreds of teenage students, both formally and informally, through his leadership of British Bnei Akiva. He studied International Relations at the London School of Economics and completed an mba at Cambridge University, all the while remaining actively involved in Jewish community life. While working as a private banker at Investec, Marc played a central role in the establishment of the Alei Tzion community in London and in the revival of Jews College as the London School of Jewish Studies. Marc, Natalie, and their daughter Yona made aliya to Modi in, where their daughter Maayan was later born, and Marc again threw himself into community-building. Marc heroically struggled with cancer for several years and passed away at age thirty-five in 2010. May his memory forever be a blessing
