Tefillah and Mussar for Women [Hardcover]
By: Fanny Nudea

Product Description
A groundbreaking prayer book was given to us by Fanny Nudea, an educated rabbi from the Czech Republic who wanted to bring back women who did not speak Hebrew to the world of Jewish prayer. She therefore wrote dozens of Jewish prayers in German and became the first woman to publish, in the middle of the 19th century, a prayer book for Jewish women and girls in that language.
The book, which was published by a respectable Jewish publishing house, became an all time bestseller. 28 editions have been published over the years in three languages. Jewish women in Germany, the United States, and Israel held the book close, alongside the traditional Siddur and even in its place, and was inherited from mother to daughter.
In addition to daily prayers, Nudea has created personal prayers that are relevant to our times: prayer for Bat Mitzvah, finding love, a bride in her absence, a mother who has a sick son, a mother whose son serves in the army, prayers for women after birth, or in the absence of the ability to create a life.
14 of these prayers were translated into Hebrew and included in the Book of Women's Prayer. They penetrated the hearts of women - and of men - in Israel and became an integral part of the various Jewish rituals: bat mitzvah, wedding, circumcision and, in contrast, moments of bereavement and loss.
The thirst for prayers among various audiences in Israel led Dr. Aliza Lavie to continue her search for Fanny Nudea and her life story, to publish her book in Hebrew, up to date but faithful to the original, and to return it to the Jewish bookcase.
Thus, 150 years later, the first Hebrew edition of the book joins the hours of conjugation, with the introduction by Dr. Lavie, for the many editions that have been published over the generations in German, English and Yiddish.
