This year Succos 2022 / 5783 is Shmitah year and we have an opportunity to observe the laws of shmitah especially during Succos. There are many and some complex laws regarding shmitah and its important to know them before purchasing an esrog from Israel. As much as we love to support Israel and use fruit from the holy land, because of the complications that can arise, this year we recommend purchasing an esrog from Morocco. The Moroccan esrogim are generally better maintained and nicer. Many communities prefer using a Moroccan esrog every year because of the halacha of "pri eitz hadar". If you do want to purchase an esrog from Israel we suggest going through the laws thoroughly before making the purchase.
